When the nose is out of balance because of its size or shape, it draws attention and detracts from the appearance of the whole face. Injuries, aging, and congenital defects of the nose can cause snoring and other breathing problems. Dr. Jared Nimtz performs nose surgery, also called rhinoplasty, in Lexington and London, KY, to provide patients from Louisville, London, and Bowling Green, KY, as well as Knoxville, TN, with both functional and cosmetic benefits. He understands that specific, subtle changes can make a big difference in a person’s appearance and quality of life.

What Are the Benefits Of Rhinoplasty?

Dr. Nimtz personalizes each rhinoplasty procedure to the unique needs and aesthetic concerns of the patient. For a single procedure, he can provide 1 or more of the following benefits:

  • Making the nose smaller, larger, or narrower
  • Correcting a hump or bump on the bridge of the nose
  • Straightening out a crooked nose
  • Reshaping nostrils that are large, flared, or different sizes
  • Improving breathing caused by a nasal blockage
  • Correcting a birth defect or damage due to an injury

Patients often choose to have other procedures performed along with rhinoplasty such as chin implant surgery or dermal filler injections for a more complete enhancement.

Who Is a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

We recommend that people considering rhinoplasty surgery be physically and emotionally healthy, and have realistic expectations regarding their surgical outcomes. Candidates for this procedure are women and men, as well as adolescents once their facial growth is complete, who have any of the following goals:

  • Achieving a nose size and shape that fits with the face
  • Repairing damage caused by injury
  • Restoring breathing

During the initial consultation, Dr. Nimtz considers options and reviews possibilities. The nature of the surgery will depend on individual needs and the outcome desired. He often uses advanced computer imaging to show possible results to patients. Dr. Nimtz will help with decision-making and provide instructions and guidelines for surgery preparation.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty surgery typically takes 2 to 3 hours to complete and is generally performed as an outpatient procedure using either local anesthetic with IV sedation or general anesthetic. Regardless of the goals, this procedure involves altering the internal structures of the nose. To do so, Dr. Nimtz uses the following techniques:

  • Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions inside the nostrils and leaves no external scar.
  • Open rhinoplasty is performed by making a small incision on the thin strip of skin that separates the nostrils. While this option leaves a barely noticeable scar, it gives Dr. Nimtz unobstructed access to the inside of the nose, especially its tip.

Once he has made the incision, Dr. Nimtz can trim, reshape, and sculpt the inner structures of the nose to create a new shape and improve functioning. He might remove small pieces of tissue to narrow the base of the nose, if desired. In some cases, he uses cartilage from another area of the body to repair or build up parts of the nose.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

In Lexington, KY, the cost for rhinoplasty varies greatly with the specifics of each procedure. After the consultation with Dr. Nimtz, we will develop a personalized quote that the patient can take and review at home. We do offer CareCredit financing for qualified patients.

What Is Recovery Like After Rhinoplasty?

After the surgery is complete, we pack the nose and insert splints to stabilize breathing passages and support the new shape. Swelling and puffiness are normal, along with mild headache pain. Bruising and swelling usually subside after a few days, and patients can resume normal activities within a week or so.

Because swelling in the nasal tissues dissipates slowly, the full results may not be reached for 6 to 12 months. Our rhinoplasty patients usually are very pleased with their new look and enjoy enhanced self-confidence.
