WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction has become one of the most common plastic surgery procedures, as it can help you look and feel better. Using a few small incisions, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jared Nimtz can remove pockets of unwanted fat to let your body’s best shape shine through.

HOW IS THE LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE DONE?
Liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia or a local anesthetic with sedation. The targeted fat is prepared by injecting it with a large volume of a tumescent solution that contains saline, a local anesthetic, and a substance that inhibits bleeding. Dr. Nimtz then inserts a long, thin tube called a cannula into the skin near the area of fat through tiny incisions. He moves the cannula in and out to loosen and break up the fat as it is suctioned away.

HOW LONG IS RECOVERY FROM LIPOSUCTION?
While patient experiences vary, most are ready to return to work, school, and normal daily activities a few days after their liposuction procedure. Patients usually need to wear a compression garment or wrap to minimize swelling and encourage smooth contours during the healing process.
WHAT IS RENUVION® SKIN TIGHTENING?
Renuvion, formerly known as J-Plasma®, is a minimally invasive, FDA-cleared skin tightening procedure. By combining radiofrequency (RF) energy with helium, Renuvion creates a cold plasma that causes skin contraction and increased collagen production without harming tissues. Dr. Nimtz uses Renuvion to smooth and tighten mild to moderately lax skin after liposuction, tummy tucks, and other plastic surgery procedures, or as an individual treatment.
After removing fat with liposuction, Dr. Nimtz inserts the long, narrow Renuvion probe under the skin through tiny incisions around the targeted area. He moves the probe along the underside of the skin as cold plasma is released. The process takes about an hour, depending on the size and number of treatment areas. Existing collagen fibers tighten during the treatment, so improvement is noticeable right away. Skin firming and tightening continue for 6 to 9 months as new collagen develops.
WHICH IS BETTER LIPOSUCTION OR TUMMY TUCK?
Many patients with unwanted abdominal fat question whether they need a tummy tuck or liposuction. Liposuction can offer good results to patients who have abdominal skin with good elasticity that is not loose or sagging and do not need abdominal muscle repair. Typically patients with loose skin will need either a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck, depending on the amount of excess skin present.
