Lines and wrinkles are among the most common and often earliest signs of aging on the face. Commonwealth Plastic Surgery offers a popular solution: quick, simple BOTOX injections. In Lexington, London, and Georgetown, KY, our BOTOX patients appreciate looking naturally refreshed, not overdone.

What Is BOTOX?

BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable product, called a neuromodulator or neurotoxin, that contains a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. It temporarily prevents certain muscle groups from contracting and creating folds in your facial skin. Interference in the action of these muscles allows these dynamic wrinkles to soften and become much less noticeable. XEOMIN® and Dysport® are newer alternatives that work in a similar way.

What Is BOTOX Used For?

There are multiple muscles in the forehead and around the eyes that give the upper third of the face character and appearance. Repeated contractions of these muscles create lines and wrinkles over time causing the following concerns:

  • Horizontal forehead creases
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows (the 11s)
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes

Dr. Nimtz and our experienced injectors frequently perform BOTOX treatments to smooth away these concerns. Dr. Nimtz also uses BOTOX as part of his Lunch Hour Lift, a nonsurgical facelift alternative.

Alternative Uses for BOTOX Cosmetic

These versatile injectable treatments may be used to provide a variety of additional benefits by treating the following concerns:

  • Thin upper lip for a BOTOX lip flip (may be combined with dermal filler lip augmentation)
  • Gummy smile
  • Square jawline for jawline slimming or masseter reduction
  • Migraine headaches
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

DOES BOTOX MAKE YOU LOOK FAKE?

BOTOX does not change the way your face looks at all when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Nimtz; it simply prevents certain muscle groups from contracting so wrinkles can fade away.

How Are BOTOX Treatments Performed?

BOTOX is simple to administer as an office treatment. First, a topical anesthetic is placed on the skin to minimize any discomfort. Next, several tiny injections of BOTOX are made into the small muscles of your forehead and around your eyes. Afterward, a cold pack is placed directly on the injection sites to help with any discomfort and redness. There is no downtime needed, so you can return to your normal routine right after your treatment!

CAN YOU SEE BOTOX RESULTS IMMEDIATELY?

BOTOX results develop gradually as facial muscle contractions stop and the skin smooths out. You can expect to see results approximately 4 or 5 days after your injections. Improvement continues for 10 to 14 days.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

The skin-smoothing results from BOTOX last approximately 3 to 6 months. Regular maintenance treatments can help you continue your refreshed look.

BOTOX FAQ

Is BOTOX safe?

Approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in 2002, BOTOX has a long history of safety when administered by a thoroughly trained and experienced provider.

Can I make my results last longer?

The life of BOTOX results depends on individual factors but generally is 3 to 4 months. Patients who receive treatments regularly, before the effects wear off, often find that they can have them less frequently over time.

What is a liquid facelift?

Dermal filler and BOTOX (or another neurotoxin) injections can be performed together to provide more complete facial rejuvenation than either on their own. This nonsurgical treatment is sometimes referred to as a liquid facelift and can be an alternative to a surgical facelift for patients with early signs of aging.

What’s the best age to start getting BOTOX?

Traditionally, women and men started BOTOX treatments in their 40s and 50s to restore a refreshed, more youthful look. Today, we also see younger patients—in their mid-20s and 30s—who have these treatments proactively to prevent dynamic wrinkles from forming in the first place.
