Liposuction removes unwanted fat to slim and sculpt the body. However, like any surgery, the procedure involves a bit of recovery time. When you’re excited to see results, those weeks of waiting can feel especially long. With a bit of research and planning, you can learn how to support your body and make your recovery as smooth as possible.
Before undergoing liposuction, it’s good to know what to expect from the recovery process. So take a look at our answers to a few questions we commonly hear from our Kentucky liposuction patients. They can help you understand the process and smooth the way to a successful recovery.
How long is liposuction recovery?
The length of your recovery depends on the size and location of the areas being treated. Most patients can return to work and daily life around 1 week after their procedure. Bruising begins to fade around this time, although slight swelling may last for several weeks. Walking and gentle movement promotes blood flow and supports healthy healing.
How can I reduce swelling after liposuction?
The best way to reduce swelling after liposuction is to wear your compression garments. The gentle pressure will support your body and prevent unwanted fluid build-up. You can also speed up recovery by drinking plenty of water, avoiding high-sodium foods, and taking slow walks once you feel comfortable. Lymphatic massages are another popular way to reduce liposuction swelling, and our sister company Sol Retreat at Keene Trace offers trained massage therapists to assist you in your post-surgical healing.
How long should I wear my compression garment after liposuction?
You should wear your compression garment for 4 weeks after your liposuction treatment. Be sure to keep it on both day and night and remove it only when showering. The garment’s slight pressure reduces swelling and helps prevent post-operative side effects such as edema or rippling.
How long after liposuction can I work out?
It’s important to give your body plenty of time to rest and recuperate after surgery. However, around 3 weeks after liposuction, you can gradually start adding exercise back into your routine. Start with low impact activities and work your way up to more intensive cardio workouts. Regular exercise is a great way to maintain your liposuction results and keep your body slim for years to come.
When will I see results after liposuction?
You may not see your results immediately after liposuction, but don’t worry—your body just needs time to heal. Swelling and bruising will persist in the first few weeks after surgery. After 1 to 3 months, your body will begin to settle into its new slimmer shape. It often can take up to 1 year for your final results to develop. Be patient with your body and give it the support it needs to create a beautiful, lasting look.
